Summertime Fun Ideas that Prevent Wasting Water
Wasting water is something that every homeowner should be conscious of. Whether you have invested in water-conserving plumbing appliances or you actively try to use less water at home, there are tons of ways you can save water every day.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In the summer, saving water may seem more challenging since you may be dealing with bored kids looking for fun ways to cool down and enjoy the outdoors. Here are a few ideas that combine summertime fun and saving water:
Don’t Use Water Balloons
A water balloon fight is an exciting game enjoyed by all ages, but the one-time use of a water balloon is wasteful. Instead of using water balloons in your next water war, try using colorful sponges.
Unlike a water balloon, a sponge can get soaked and tossed an infinite amount of times. Simply place some strategic water buckets around the yard and let the water fight begin!
Create Dynamic Games Using Sponges
In addition to soaking unsuspecting water fight participants, sponges can also be used in dynamic minute-to-win-it style games. One of our favorite games involves using a sponge to fill water buckets. The setup for the game is as follows:
- Place a full water bucket and an empty water bucket at a distance from each other.
- Using only a sponge, soak up water from the full bucket and run it over to the empty bucket without spilling any on the way.
- The team that fills their empty bucket the fastest is the winner!
Use the Hose
A functional garden hose is another prop that can be used for exciting outdoor fun! Hose limbo is one of the best ways you can get the whole family involved. Simply crank up some fun music and use the water stream from the hose as a “limbo stick.” Participants can limbo under the stream or cool down by getting hit.
Use the Sprinkler Two Ways
One of the most iconic summer boredom relievers is running through the sprinkler. Instead of running the sprinkler for hours on end, run it in shorter bursts and take advantage of that time to let the kids run through the stream.
An oscillating sprinkler creates a dynamic experience that will create lasting summer memories for your kids while your lawn gets some much-needed moisture.
Turn Ice Into a Game
Sensory games are exciting and fun for kids of all ages. Making use of ice in the summer is a great way for kids to learn and cool down. A few things you can try include:
- Freezing small toys in an ice-cube tray and giving them to the kids. They’ll get a kick out of seeing their toy frozen, and will be, even more, delighted when the ice finally melts.
- Create a massive ice cube by filling a regular balloon with water and freezing it. Once frozen, pop the balloon and you are left with a giant ice cube.
